Get in Your Truck and Hit the Road

Night Truck Racing offers a whole new spin on the popular racing concept. Not only does the action take place at night, but players race to the finish line in one of a number of cool trucks. Read on to discover if the game truly offers racing game fans something different to get their motors running.

Think about the things you love about classic racing games. It’s probably the cool cars, great graphics, awesome music track and some effects and wide range of options that put you right in the centre of the action. Now strip all of these cool features away and what you are left with is Night Truck Racing.

The game is very easy to play, which is sure to be a bonus for young or experienced players. However, none of the excitement that many other racing games provide is present here and the game actually feels rather dull. Racing at night simply isn’t as cool as it sounds, especially when you are confined to a poorly represented truck rather than a super car.

Players are given two different modes to choose from and like the game itself, the training mode offers exactly what the name suggests. However, this game is really not very difficult to get to grips with and most players are sure to find that they are done with the training mode after a few minutes.

The competition mode promises much more, but for the most part fails to deliver. Winning races allows you to unlock newer trucks. However, the flat and undetailed graphics mean that all of the trucks come off looking very similar to each other and there is really not too much to choose between them in terms of speed or the way in which they handle either.

Night Truck Racing has tried so hard to carve out a unique place for itself in the racing game world that it feels as though the creators have forgotten what makes these games so much fun in the first place. The only benefit of having the races take place at night is that players almost don’t notice how bad the graphics are and how boring the tracks are. Almost.

Pros

  • The trucks are easy to control
  • There is no steep learning curve

Cons

  • The graphics are very flat
  • The menus are awkward
  • The tracks are monotonous
  • The soundtrack is terrible
